Conjunctivitis - 'Pink Eye'

Pink eye is known in the medical community as conjunctivitis. Signs and symptoms of pink eye include red burning and itchy eyes. The infected eye will often feel like something is in it causing you to rub the eye. Pink eye will often cause the eye to water excessively. After sleeping the eyelid and eyelash will often be coated with a crust like layer.

The eyelids usually swell giving the eye a weak puffy and sore appearance.

Pink eye often infects only one eye but is then spread into the other eye by your fingers from rubbing, making both eyes infected with pink eye.

Pink Eye Treatment

There are two kinds of pink eye, one is from a virus and the other is from allergies. Pink eye from allergies will generally clear up by simply flushing the eye with water or an over the counter medicated eye drop for a 3-6 days. The viral kind of pink eye is tougher to get rid of and should be treated with an antibiotic medicated eye drop until symptoms are cured.

To clean the crust from the eyelid and eyebrow simply use a clean wet cloth with warm water and gently rub the crust coated area being careful not to irritate the eye more.
